Fucking hell, I’m back

Hello dear reader, we had problems with getting the site up and running again due to my lovely web developer dealing with his own life. It was of course utterly selfish of him to put his needs first but now we are back and most of us are wishing we were somewhere else. A friend of mine recently posed the question, “If you could go anywhere where would you go,” to which I replied, ‘anywhere but here’. But isn’t that the answer everyone would give?

Here happens to be Australia: to be exact I am in the Caviar Communist State of Melbourne where for a mere 470 alleged deaths – average age 82.5 – from these execrably named Covid thing, we are locked up. I had never considered I would live in a police state, however as I reached my 23rd year in London (which I still consider my real home) I made a trip to Australia (2015) and I will bore you with the details later but I fell in love with A. This was only the second time in 30 years I had fallen in love for real, a feeling I can only describe as not so much one of the heart but one that went straight to my guts. I make no bones about not liking Melbourne: I have always felt more European and London, along with my frequent trips abroad cemented that. Realistically it is impossible to just fall back into line after so many years away and I expected that. I didn’t reckon on a nanny state, so over regulated that I’m not sure which way I should tie my shoelaces. And now the highly disproportionate reaction to yet another Asian import has made things very difficult. My once bohemian and very European city of Melbourne has been targeted by Chinese money and now looks like a fourth rate Asian city, the shops are empty and I fear there is not the critical mass to get it on its feet. Meanwhile A and I make Plans A, B, C and D. Only one of those includes a tunnel out of here.

COINCIDENCE

This virus has a high IQ
much smarter than me or you.
Apparently this so called pandemic
is highly academic.
It knows when you keep social distance
politely offers its desistance,
millimetres respected by disease
Covid, you are such a tease.
But if I do as they say
over 1.5 metres do not stray
it will not be there
to contaminate my patch of air.
Meanwhile the deaths that went before
are not mentioned anymore
Cancers, heart attack and stroke
are not fashionable to the Woke
Now with opportunistic breath
Politicians talk of certain death
And their numbers tell us lies
While locked inside, we slowly die.
